UNITED IN SPIRIT:

37 Years of Empowering Lives & Communities

We praise God for the opportunity to participate in this year’s Operation Christmas Child Gift Distribution. On March 2, 2024, we received 100 boxes filled with gifts, which we joyfully distributed to 100 children aged 2 to 14 from nearby communities. The smiles on their faces as they opened their gifts were a testament to the love and generosity that went into each box. This event not only brought joy to the children but also strengthened our connections with the local families, reminding us of the importance of community and support.

In addition to the gift distribution, we initiated a 12-week discipleship program for the children who received the gifts. From March 16 to June 8, a total of 61 children from various ministry outreach areas participated in the program. Every Saturday and Sunday, our dedicated youth volunteers traveled to these communities to teach and guide the children in their spiritual journey. Each child received a discipleship book, and both the students and teachers were provided with teaching guides to ensure a clear and effective learning experience. These resources, along with the ministry’s support, helped the children understand biblical principles and deepen their faith. As the weeks progressed, the children not only learned about faith but also experienced the love of God in a deeper way. Each session was designed to nurture their understanding of Jesus Christ and help them grow in their personal relationship with Him. At the end of the 12-week program, the children were joyfully presented with their very own Bibles as a symbol of their commitment and continued discipleship. For many of them, this was their first Bible, a treasured gift that will guide them in their spiritual walk.

We are especially proud of the 33 children who successfully completed and graduated from the APP (Ang Pinakadakilang Paglalakbay or The Greatest Journey) classes. Their dedication to learning and growing in faith is a testament to the power of discipleship. We believe that these children, empowered spiritually and socially, will positively impact their communities.

This year, our evangelism efforts were bolstered by the dedication of women in the leadership of Ms. Katerin Lopena, to reach out to fellow women in various communities. Once a month, these women gather to pool their resources, using their own limited funds to buy food items, clothes, or any necessities they can give to mothers and women in need. Although they are not financially wealthy themselves, their desire to serve and uplift others drives them to continue this mission. They embody the spirit of generosity and compassion, often giving from their own pockets to bless others.

What makes their efforts even more inspiring is the lengths to which they go to reach these women. Crossing rivers, walking through difficult terrains, and traveling to remote areas, these women are committed to bringing help to places that are often overlooked. They have already reached several communities, including San Joseph, San Antonio, Pangalorin, and many more. Each outreach visit is not only an opportunity to share physical resources but also a chance to offer the love of Christ, building relationships through heartfelt conversations and prayer.

The outreach extends beyond just meeting physical needs; it’s a deeply spiritual mission as well. Each visit is filled with moments of sharing God’s Word, encouraging the women they meet, and praying for their families. Through these encounters, the women being served are reminded that they are not forgotten and that there is hope in Christ. Ms. Lopena and her team of dedicated women have become a lifeline for many mothers who are facing hardships, helping to carry their burdens, even for just a moment.

Through these missions, Ms. Lopena and her team have embraced their role in God’s kingdom work, serving with joy and unwavering faith. Their selfless acts of love are making a lasting impact in the lives of those they reach, reflecting their deep commitment to the Gospel. As they continue to go out, month after month, their ministry is a powerful testament to what can be achieved when ordinary people, regardless of financial limitations, allow themselves to be used by God for extraordinary purposes.

Sharing God’s Word is always at the core of C.A.R.E.,Philippines’ ministry. The church, The Light of the Lord Christian Fellowship, experienced a joyful and memorable Family Day on April 28, 2024, at Kaysakat Resort, where 21 new believers were baptized. The day was filled with laughter and celebration as 210 attendees, including children and parents, came together for a potluck feast. Rev. Menardo Roque led the baptism ceremony, guiding the candidates through their public declaration of faith in Christ, which was met with cheers and encouragement from the congregation.

The Family Day festivities highlighted the essential role that family plays in nurturing spiritual growth and promoting a sense of belonging within the church community. As children played joyfully and families engaged in heartfelt conversations, the atmosphere was one of warmth and unity. The shared experience of witnessing baptisms created a deep sense of spiritual connection among the attendees, reinforcing the idea that we are all part of one body in Christ. The presence of parents alongside their children during this significant moment demonstrated the importance of walking together in discipleship, encouraging the next generation to embrace their faith. As we celebrated together, we were reminded that we are not just a congregation but a family united in our mission to share the love of Christ. Moving forward, the lessons learned and the connections forged during this event will continue to inspire us as we grow in our faith and serve our community together.

Continuing the ministry in Batangas, Ptra. Rebecca Perez led the congregation in Nangkaan, Mataas na Kahoy, Batangas by focusing on providing spiritual guidance as well as practical help to youth and families. With each visit, we see lives touched by the Gospel and hearts transformed. The steadfast dedication of Ptra. Vicky and her team are a testament to the power of consistency in ministry. Their commitment to showing up week after week builds trust and relationships. However, their work is not without challenges. The ongoing threat of Taal Volcano, which emits gas sporadically and remains active. Despite the absence of significant eruptions, the potential danger serves as a constant reminder of the precariousness of life in the area.

In addition to our outreach initiatives, we are pleased to share that we now have four students under the Educational Assistance Program of CARE. These students have been faithfully attending church and actively serving on the music team. The educational assistance aims to provide support to these dedicated young individuals. As they continue to grow in faith and knowledge, we look forward to witnessing their impact not only in their own lives but also in their families and the wider community.

As we seek to deepen our outreach efforts, we recognize the challenges faced by their congregation in accessing services. Today, they are actively searching for a suitable lot for a new church location near the highway. The current location at the resort has proven difficult for their elderly members due to the steep and narrow path required to reach it. Moreover, they need a vehicle to allow them to transport members and supplies to and from various locations more effectively. Ptra. Vicky, who manages these efforts, has diabetes and is getting older, which adds to the challenges she faces. Her strength and commitment to the ministry are truly inspiring, and we pray for her health and endurance as she continues to serve. As we trust in God’s provision, we are hopeful that with your support and prayers, they will overcome these challenges and continue to make a positive impact in the lives of those they serve.

The medical mission at Sitio Kaysakat, Barangay San Jose, Antipolo City, Rizal on June 12, 2024 served over 400 people and provided essential medical care to the community. Led by Dr. Jean Go-Du and her dedicated team from the United Evangelical Church of Malabon (UECM), the event offered various health services, including medical, dental, ophthalmic, and cervical screenings (Pap smears). We are especially grateful to Kaysakat Chairman and Barangay Tanod for their support during the medical mission and for lending us the daycare center for the cervical screenings. Each mission includes the sharing of the Word of God, instilling hope among attendees. The gratitude expressed by beneficiaries highlighted the importance of holistic care—addressing both physical and spiritual needs.

In addition to the Kaysakat event, we hosted numerous medical missions throughout the year, reflecting our ongoing commitment to community health. Earlier in March 2024, Dr. Fabregas, Dr. Eliseo Jun Garcia, and Wilfredo Suarez, R.N., dedicated their time to conduct small medical consultations for 60 people at CARE Education Center. These consultations provided essential check-ups and treatments for families who might otherwise go without, making a significant difference in their lives. We are especially grateful to Dr. Ferjenel Biron, who generously donated medicines for the medical mission. This partnership exemplifies the spirit of collaboration that fuels our mission.

The day was filled with stories of healing, hope, and a renewed sense of God’s provision. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all our partners and volunteers who made these initiatives possible. As we look ahead, we remain committed to expanding our healthcare outreach and ensuring that everyone in our community has access to the support they need to thrive.

The Educational Assistance Program (EAP) continues to positively impact students and families in the nearby communities. In addition to academic support, the EAP emphasizes the importance of teaching students’ biblical principles alongside responsibility and discipline.

Parents and children participate in this holistic approach. Students are also involved in our music group and actively teach younger kids in Sunday School, which enhances their leadership skills and reinforces their learning. Recently, students and parents gathered in a general meeting to discuss their progress and share experiences. This gathering reinforced the importance of community involvement in education, with parents expressing gratitude for the support provided by CARE Philippines. Key supporters of the Educational Asssistance Program are the United Evangelical Church of Malabon (UECM), Designaid Inc., and individual sponsors like Mr. Rafael Pengson and Atty. Melo Biron. They have played a crucial role in the program’s success, helping us reach a total of 20 students this year.

Our commitment to EAP students is further demonstrated through regular school monitoring and visitations. This year, the team made several trips to ensure students were thriving both academically and personally. These visits allow us to provide personalized guidance, check on their progress, and address any challenges they may be facing. By maintaining this connection, we show that students are not alone in their educational journey; they are supported by a caring team dedicated to their success. Together, we continue to strengthen families and encourage students to reach their full potential in academics and their walk with God,

This year, we celebrated the graduation of the first batch of Alternative Learning System (ALS) students in the month of July at the Ynares Center, comprising eight graduates from Sitio Tanza 2, Barangay San Jose, Antipolo City, Rizal. Many of these graduates are senior citizens who demonstrated incredible perseverance.

One standout graduate is Nanay Maeta, a 61-year-old mother of 11 children, many of whom are already starting their own families. As a utility staff member at CARE, she expressed a heartfelt desire to complete her high school education. Despite her demanding job and the exhaustion that comes with caring for a large family, she remained committed to her studies, attending classes every Tuesday at the Annex building and diligently submitting all her requirements. Nanay Maeta’s determination exemplifies the spirit of resilience that defines our ALS program, which provides a vital second chance for those who were unable to complete formal schooling.

The atmosphere during the graduation at the Ynares Center was filled with joy and pride as the graduates received their certificates. Nanay Maeta’s graduation was particularly poignant, attended by her children who beamed with pride as she received her diploma. She shared her motivation for pursuing education, stating, “This is my dream, and this is something I can be proud of for my kids.” Her story is an inspiring reminder that it is never too late to pursue one’s dreams and aspirations. In the picture (start from left), graduates Nanay Maeta, Nanay Vangie, Nanay Dinay and husband, Tatay Ilde smiled confidently with their diplomas.

We continue to support the Alternative Learning System in encouraging out of school youth and senior citizens for lifelong learning. This year, another batch of students enrolled in the program and using the Annex Building as their classroom. With their newfound qualifications, these graduates are now better equipped to contribute positively to their communities and inspire others to follow in their footsteps.

Congratulations ALS Graduates!

The C.A.R.E., Philippines’ Rondalla ensemble has been sharing Filipino culture and God’s message through music for 19 years.  This year, they carry on that tradition with a new generation of 30 public school students, trained by Ms. Katerin Lopena and Shara Ibanez, both experienced Rondalla musicians under the training and discipline of Maestro Mangandi of Rizal Technological University and Maestro Ric Calubayan of University of Sto. Tomas.

This year, they participated in significant events, including National Heritage Month 2024 and Pistahan sa Mayo at Ed’s Farm in Antipolo. Their performance on May 26, 2024, at Ed’s Farm was attended by notable figures such as USEC Evelyn Lavina (former Agriculture Undersecretary), Councilor LJ Sumulong, and Mamalyn Dion, the Department Head of City Agriculture.

These events not only celebrate Filipino musical traditions but also provide a platform for the youth to honor their cultural roots while entertaining and educating audiences. The Rondalla had also performed at the UCM Missions Fair on September 29, 2024, and CARE’s 37th Anniversary on September 21, 2024. Their performances bring traditional Filipino music to life, blending instruments like the bandurria, laud, and guitar. Under the mentorship of Ms. Lopena and Ms. Ibanez, these new students are gaining not only musical skills but also the values of unity, perseverance, and faith through their practices and performances.

This year is an important milestone for the Rondalla ensemble, which continues to use music as a form of worship and ministry. As they approach two decades of history, their performances have evolved beyond cultural showcases into powerful expressions of their spiritual journey and commitment to glorifying God through their talents. Each event they participate in reinforces their mission of using music to inspire and connect with the community.

The Union Church of Manila (UCM) has been a faithful supporter of CARE Philippines, contributing to various aspects of our ministry over the years. Whether through their support for Music and Culture programs or inviting our Rondalla group to perform at their annual Missions Fair, UCM has continually demonstrated its commitment to our shared mission of service and community. This partnership has allowed us to showcase the beauty of our local culture while strengthening the bonds of fellowship between our organizations. This year, however, UCM went even further by extending a special blessing to the pastors in the Cogeo area. On February 6, 2024, thirty (30) pastors of the Association of Churches in Tandem for  Services (ACTS) in Antipolo, Rizal received Christmas gifts from UCM. Present from the UCM team were Ms. Bea Agnir, the Missions and Benevolence Chair, and Ms. Carla Banas, among others. These pastors, who serve tirelessly in their respective communities, often face immense challenges in supporting their congregations. The thoughtful gifts from UCM provided much-needed resources that have empowered them to continue their ministries with renewed energy and enthusiasm. This blessing was more than just a gift; it was a symbol of encouragement and solidarity. By uplifting our pastors during this Christmas season, UCM reminded them that they are not alone in their mission. The gifts enabled them to better serve their congregations and spread the message of hope, love, and faith more effectively. Many pastors shared how this act of generosity not only met  practical needs but also strengthened their spirits, allowing them to persevere in their work  with greater purpose. As they carry out their pastoral duties, they do so with the knowledge that there are partners like UCM who believe in and stand alongside them in their ministry.

Chloe who needed immediate medical attention, faced a journey filled with uncertainty and challenges, but with the grace of God and the support of Union Church of Manila, she and her family found the hope they desperately needed.

Chloe, a vibrant 4-year-old, was diagnosed with Severe Obstruction Sleep Apnea Syndrome, a condition that threatened her well-being and development. Her medical journey began at just one year old with a diagnosis of tonsillitis, which seemed routine at first. However, by the age of four, things took a serious turn when to seek medical intervention. The family sought help at Amang Rodriguez Hospital, where Chloe underwent extensive ENT therapy. Medical investigations revealed her diagnosis, characterized by obstructed airflow during sleep, causing significant disruptions in her breathing patterns. This syndrome’s origins traced back to her early encounter with tonsillitis, indicating a progressive escalation of her condition. To address Chloe’s medical needs, consultations with specialists became crucial. The proposed interventions—either a Pap titration or upper airway surgery—highlighted the seriousness of her condition and the urgent need for support.

Chloe’s family attends the weekly Bible study with Ms. Katerin Lopena. This was the time when Ms. Katerin learned about their problem. That time, the family faced significant financial burdens. Her father, a construction worker with irregular employment, and her mother, a housewife seeking work, struggled to provide for Chloe’s medical needs. It was during this difficult time that UCM stepped in. Through our partnership, we were able to provide Chloe with the medical care she needed. Thanks to the unwavering support from UCM and the heartfelt donations from our community, Chloe underwent surgery for her sleep apnea on January 9, 2024. This surgery marked a significant turning point in her life, as Chloe began to heal and regain her health. Her journey serves as a powerful reminder of God’s love and how it reaches the brokenhearted through the hands and feet of His people. Today, Chloe is on the road to recovery, radiating joy and health. Her family has found renewed strength, and they are actively attending church, embracing their faith as a source of hope and healing. Chloe’s story is not just one of medical triumph; it is a testament to the power of community and faith in the face of adversity. As we reflect on Chloe’s journey, we are reminded that no challenge is insurmountable with love, support, and faith. Together, we are restoring hope and changing lives—one story at a time..
